16-year-old Kills Herself After Her Instagram Followers Said They Want To See Her Dead

A 16-year-old lady has ended her life by committing suicide after posting an Instagram ballot asking if she ought to reside or die.


Majority of respondents mentioned sure, making her to take the choice to finish her life.


In line with AFP, the unhappy incident occurred in Malaysia. The unidentified 16-year-old from Kuching in Sarawak died after posting the ballot on Monday on the Fb-owned image sharing platform.


Police have labeled the case as “sudden dying”.


“Really Important, Help Me Choose D/L,” she wrote, in line with a report on the information portal Astro Awani, with the letters “D” and “L” apparently referring to “die” or “live” respectively.


Sixty-nine per cent of votes forged had been in favour of her ending her life, with simply 31 per cent towards, native media quoted police as saying.

Lawmaker Ramkarpal Singh referred to as for a probe into the circumstances of her dying.

“I urge the authorities to investigate the social media accounts of the victim and the circumstances that led to her death to prevent further abuse of social media in similar circumstances in the future,” he mentioned.


“It is important that incidents such as this do not repeat themselves,” he added.


Youth and Sports activities Minister Syed Saddiq tweeted that he was “genuinely worried” concerning the state of psychological well being of younger folks in Malaysia.

“It’s a national issue which must be taken seriously. A national discussion must take place,” he mentioned.

Ching Yee Wong, head of communications for Instagram APAC, mentioned in an announcement: “Our ideas and prayers are with this younger girl’s household.

“We have a deep responsibility to make sure people using Instagram feel safe and supported. As part of our own efforts, we urge everyone to use our reporting tools and to contact emergency services if they see any behaviour that puts people’s safety at risk.”


In 2017, British teen Molly Russell took her personal life after logging on to examine suicide, sparking a debate about regulating kids’s social media use.


Instagram subsequently introduced a clampdown on photographs of self-harm.
